WHO IS EDUCARE           GROUP WORK AND COUNSELLING           SUPPORT IN EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS           AIMS
Educare is a registered client-centered social enterprise, that aspires to become a charitable organization that acknowledges the therapeutic contribution of "sport, recreation, music, and drama," in the "educational, health, physical, and social development" of all young people.

Educare is the result of many years of research prompted by the ever growing number of young people with a development deficit. Run by experienced social workers, choreographers, legal experts and sports therapists, Educare works in collaboration with other agencies, including local authority, probation and social services departments and the police and prisons departments. Such collaboration is crucial in providing a good quality service to our users, and to ensure that children and young people are not only heard but their developmental needs are adequately met.

Our principle objective is to educate children and young people through the innovative medium of ‘sport and recreation’ and help to lure them away from crime, instil socially acceptable behaviour and promote educational achievement. The project operates an appointments system and, offers youth and sports opportunities, group work, independent living skills, music and drama, specialist work on offending behaviour, counselling and advice We also offer keep-fit (circuit training) sessions for children and young people who may be considered to be overweight or obese.

Using the concept of “education through Sport and Recreation" we intend to work proactively with all children and young people who are either at risk or may already be excluded from school. This is in view of the link between non-school attendance and anti-social behaviour. Furthermore, we offer independent living skills training, and specialist work with children and young people referred for behaviour management issues. That includes those with attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD).

This well-researched and tested approach to working with children and young people enables their needs to be fully met through a process of proactive participation and socialisation. As a consequence, we anticipate a remarkable enhancement in self esteem and confidence, a positive attitude to education and, a reduction in antisocial/criminal behaviour. Furthermore, they learn new social skills and feel a drastic improvement in their overall welfare. Once at this stage of development, it is envisaged that children and young people will have acquired the three crucial values of "accountability, respect and responsibility” and will hence be perceived much able to interact and appropriately perform in school. Those with a propensity for anti social and criminal behaviour will attain the skills enabling them to distinguish between constructive and destructive behaviour, and hence act or behave according to what was expected of them. It would be naive to assume we can achieve the young people’s best interests without working in collaboration with their parents and carers, etc. It will hence be Educare’s policy to work with other agencies to safeguard, protect, and enhance the welfare of all children and young people referred to our service.
